Listener question: I was listening to Ep. 279 and it hit me hard. Years ago, my ex moved away with my son and secured sole custody. I don’t ever get to see my son, but I pay child support every month. My ex takes every opportunity to berate me and tell me I’m a terrible person when she has to interact with me. How do I achieve closure when I’ll always be tied to the person who hurts me? Listener question: What’s your advice when people don’t respect the boundaries you’ve clearly communicated to them? How do you cope with the mental distress of wanting to please people and help them out, but also needing to live your own life? Listener question: When you guys are experiencing an enormous change in your lives (romantically, professionally, socially, or otherwise), what are your tips for trying to be as successful as possible in that transition? What are some of the things you guys struggle with the most, and what are some of the best strategies you have discovered that work best for yourselves? Do you have any advice, tips, or words of wisdom for people who are in a similar situation to me and are trying to put themselves out there in any aspect, to meet new people and discover new opportunities?

Is it expected that we should be positive all the time on social media? If we’re having a bad time and vent, is it looked upon negatively? Are we setting unrealistic expectations that everybody’s lives are super happy if we’re only supposed to post relentlessly positive things all the time? What do you do when someone wants to show their love through their wallet, but it makes you feel uncomfortable? A new family member wants to spend a large amount of money on my kids’ Christmas gifts and I’m not sure how to handle it. Should I just graciously accept even if it makes me uncomfortable? I was called into HR over my friend’s concern that I was withdrawing after the passing of my mother in November. I used to be a lot more outgoing and social, but I find myself more comfortable doing things alone.  Do I just let what feels normal to me be and not worry what others think or worry about? Or, is this a real problem that I should be worried about? Be a part of the show by sending your Tell Us One Thing questions, feedback, and requests for advice to questions@taurenthinktank.com. How do you move on after someone you love takes their own life? A listener writes us with the following letter: I was in love with a girl, but circumstances kept us apart. She committed suicide about five years ago, and I can’t find anyone I care about as much as I cared about her. How do I move on from someone who I’m convinced to this day was my soulmate?  I know I’m able to hold relationships, but I just don’t want to. Freedom of speech isn’t freedom from consequences. We’ve all heard that a lot lately, right? We dig into the topic of saying what you think and the consequences of it, the rules of society and how they’ve changed, and the what, whys, and hows of it all (and do our best to stay free of political debate in the process!) Inertia - it’s the thing that keeps us in the same spot, not making changes we want to make in our lives because it’s just easier to stay put than carve out a new path, habit, skill, etc. But trying new things...that’s scary! What keeps us in that inertia state, and how can trying new things make you feel better?
